Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 161 O’CONNELL, Fraser Keith “Faye” WWII Faye, as he was known, was born in 1917, son of John and Mary (Keefe) O’Connell of Meadowvale, and enlisted in 1943 in the Royal Canadian Army and served in Canada. He performed his duties as a Gunner. After the war, he and his wife, Edna (MacPhee), lived in Meadowvale and later in Truro. He passed away in 1989. O’CONNELL, Jeremiah “Jerry” WWI Jerry, son of Timothy and Catherine (Fisher) O’Connell of South Branch, was born in 1883 and fought with the 25th Battalion, Canadian Infantry Nova Scotia Regiment and was wounded in battle and, while being transported by ambulance, the ambulance was blown up by German artillery. He died on September 14, 1916, and his name is inscribed on the Vimy Memorial at Pas de Calais, France. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society. OLIVER, Raymond WWII Raymond was born in Lucasville, NS, and served with the Canadian Anti-Tank Regiment in Hockfield-Rhine Valley Area and Germany. He received the 1939-45 Star, the France-Germany Star, CVSM & Clasp, the Defence Medal and the King George Medal. Raymond passed away in 2008. Submitted by the Alvin Foster Memorial Branch #098 of The Royal Canadian Legion. O’CONNELL, Rufus Elroy WWI Rufus, son of Timothy and Catherine (Fisher) O’Connell of South Branch was born in 1889. He was living in Winnipeg and working as a teamster when he was recruited for service in WWI. He spent some time overseas during the war. Later, he married Elizabeth Patriquin and lived in Truro.
