Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 165 PRATT, John James Alexander WWI Sandy, son of John Henry and Sarah Ann (Pratt) Pratt of Smithfield, was born in 1892, and enlisted in Winnipeg and spent some time overseas. After the war, he again went west and eventually homesteaded near Hines Creek, AB. He was involved in community affairs and was a great supporter of the Alberta Farmers Union in his community. PRATT, Ronald Spurgeon WWII Ronnie, son of William and Gertrude (Wright) Pratt of Meadowvale, was born in 1927, and enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy in 1944 at the age of 17. After the war, he returned to Meadowvale, where he farmed and worked in the woods. He later lived in South Branch. Ronnie passed away in 2005. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society. PREST, Homer Eldon WWII Homer, son of Melvin and Susan (Hawes) Prest of Cross Roads, was born in 1920, and enlisted with the Royal Canadian Engineers serving overseas from 1942-1945, and saw action in France, Italy and Germany. He re-enlisted with the Canadian Army in 1954 and remained in the Army until retirement in 1963. He married Audrey Dean, daughter of Cecil and Annie Alice (Fancy) Dean. They retired to Cross Roads. Homer passed away in 1984. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society. PREST, Elmont Gasper WWII Elmont, son of Melvin and Susan (Hawes) Prest of Cross Roads, was born in 1914, and went overseas after his training in Manitoba and served both with the RCAF, Squadron 619, and the British Air Force as a Flying Officer. He died on August 18, 1943, when the Lancaster plane he was in was shot down. He is buried in Aabenraa Cemetery, Denmark. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society.
