Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 171 READE, Ronald Joshua WWII Ron, son of Fred Foster and Pearl Lottie (Hape) Reade, was born in Amherst, NS, in 1924. He enlisted and took his training at Camp Aldershot. The intense noise from the guns used in practice caused hearing loss and he never was sent overseas, but served his wartime service in Canada. He married Dora E. Wood, and they lived many years in Middle Stewiacke. Ron worked at Canadian Tire in Truro and Brookfield Toyota before his retirement. He passed away in 2003. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society. REID, Christopher AFGHANISTAN Corporal Christopher Reid (1972 –August 03, 2006) age 34 from Truro, NS. Served with 1st Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry based in Edmonton, AB. Cpl. Reid joined the reserves in 1989, and then the Canadian Army in 1995. He was killed when the light armoured vehicle in which he was traveling struck an improvised explosive device near the village of Pashul in Afghanistan. Reid also completed tours of duty in Bosnia and Croatia. Submitted by Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion. REID, Fred Joseph WWII Fred was born in 1917, and served in the Army in England, Holland and D-Day. Fred passed away in 1996. REID, Clarence WWII Clarence was born in Sydney, NS, in 1924, and served in the Merchant Navy and Army Militia. He got rheumatic fever aboard ship on the way back from the Azores to Sydney, NS, and died a few months later in 1944, at age 20.
