Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 195 TAYLOR, Rupert Alexander WWII Rupert was the son of George and Henrietta Robertson (Fulton) Taylor of Middle Stewiacke, and was born in 1917. He enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1943 and went to Yarmouth for his basic training. In 1944, he was sent to Kingston, Jamaica, with the Brockville Rifles. He married Thelma Pearl Stevens of Forest Glen, and lived in Birch Hill where he was a farmer and truck driver. Rupert passed away in 2006. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society. TAYLOR, Spurgeon Balcolm WWII Spurgeon, son of Samuel and Delia (Watson) Taylor of Wittenburg, was born in 1903. He enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1939 and served overseas in England, Italy, France and Belgium. After the war, he lived in South Branch and worked as a lumberman. He passed away in 1993. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society. TREE, William Muir WWII Bill, son of James Edward and Eliza Jane (Nichols) Tree of Upper Stewiacke, was born in 1923. He enlisted with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders and saw active duty in England, Italy, France, Belgium and Holland. He was on the front line for the last ten months of his service, working as a stretcher bearer. He married Elsie Graham or Burnside and lived in Burnside, Eastville and Pictou County where Bill worked on various dairy farms. He passed away in 1976. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society. TEAS, Gordon William WWII Gordon, son of Alfred and Biney (Kennedy) Teas of South Branch, was born in 1913. He enlisted in the Canadian Army, ATK Support Company and sailed for England in 1941. He was a D-Day veteran, taking part in the invasion of France in 1944. He also saw action in Belgium, Holland and Germany, arriving back in Canada on VJ Day. After the war, he went to the United States and worked in maintenance for a bank in the Boston area. He married Florence McInnis and lived in Brookline, Massachusetts. Gordon passed away in 2007. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society.
