Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 23 BRENTON, Byard Fraser WWI Byard, born in 1895, was the son of Alexander and Annie (Jeffers) Brenton of Birch Hill. He enlisted in July 1917 with the Nova Scotia Regiment and served in Canada, England and France. He married Gertrude Archibald of Pleasant Valley and resided in Birch Hill, then in Brookfield for a while and then to Ontario. He passed away in 1972. BRENTON, Frank Howard WWI Frank, son of Alexander and Annie (Jeffers) Brenton of Birch Hill, was born in 1892 and went to the United States and enlisted in the American Army. He was killed in action on October 9, 1918, and is buried in Meuse-Argonne Cemetery in France. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society. BRENTON, Lewis WWI Lewis, born in 1897, was the son of Alan and Rosa (Bland) Brenton of Middle Stewiacke. After the war, he returned to Middle Stewiacke and then moved to the United States. He married (1) Carrie (Flemming) Ernst and (2) Janet (Reid) Flemming. Lewis passed away in 1962 and is buried in Massachusetts. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society. BRENTON, Grace Thurza WWI Grace, born in 1888, was the daughter of Robinson and Margaret (Winton) Brenton of Cloverdale. She enlisted in 1915 as a Nursing Sister. In 1918, she was married in England to New Zealand native Reginald Gambrill, an Army Major, and made their home in New Zealand. Grace passed away in 1967.
