Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 37 COMEAU, Stanley J. WWII Stanley was born in Sissaboo, Digby County, NS, in 1924 and joined the Army and served in Canada. Stanley has been a Life Member of the Digby Branch #020 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 35 years. Submitted by Digby Branch #020 of The Royal Canadian Legion. CONROY, Donald Elwood WWII Donald, son of William and Bertha (Tupper) Conroy of Middle Stewiacke, was born in 1925 and enlisted with the RCAF in 1943, serving in Canada and Europe. He was discharged in 1945 with the rank of Sergeant. He married Ruth Lenore Boomer of Alton and lived in that community for many years. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society. CONROY, Robert Fitzgerald WWII Robert, son of William and Bertha (Tupper) Conroy of Middle Stewiacke, was born in 1921 and enlisted in the Canadian Forestry Corps, then transferred to the RCAF and served overseas as a Flight Lieutenant. In 1943, his plane was shot down. He survived and was able to get through enemy territory back to England and was sent home on furlough and volunteered to return to action and was killed when his plane was shot down over Dusseldorf on March 24, 1944. Robert was buried in Berlin in the 1939-1949 War Cemetery, Germany. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society. CONROY, John Lyons WWII John, son of William and Bertha (Tupper) of Middle Stewiacke, was born in 1912. He was on his way west when war broke out, so he joined the Winnipeg Grenadiers. In England, he was wounded in the leg when a hand grenade exploded during training. He married Helen McCabe of Truro and settled in Ontario. John passed away in 1977.
