Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 43 COX, Gerald WWII Gerald, son of Robert and Nettie (Dunlap) Cox of South Branch and Upper Stewiacke Village, was born in 1921 and joined the RCAF and served in Canada. He married Marion Moore of Bass River and lived in Ontario and Saskatchewan. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society. COX, James Foster WWII James was raised in Eastville, a foster son of Creelman and Caroline (Graham) Cox. He enlisted with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders when war broke out and served with the Canadian Army Provost Corps. After the war, he became Chief of Police in Berwick, NS. He married Edith Alice Stevens of Wolfville. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society. COX, Norman Alexander WWI Norman, son of Campbell and Christina (MacKenzie) Cox, was born in Eastville in 1900 and served at Fort Ogilvie in Halifax and in the 1st Canadian Garrison Artillery for one year and eleven months. He married Bessie Dean, and after her death, he moved to the United States and eventually married again to Katherine Dolan. Norman passed away in 1955. COX, Kathleen Mabel WWII Kathleen, daughter of James and Stella (Bates) Cox of South Branch, was born in 1915 and received her R.N. from the Nova Scotia Hospital in 1941, enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1943 and was sent overseas, nursing in England, Holland and Germany, and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. She spent two months nursing Russian ex-prisoners of war from the German Concentration Camps. After the war, she married Harry Winters and when he died she returned to South Branch and built a house on the Meadowvale Road. She passed away in 1995.
