Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 57 DAVIS, Gerald Maurice KOREA Gerald was born in Stewiacke in 1931 and is the son of Roy and Carolyn (Knowlton) Davis. He enlisted in the Canadian Army in August 1949 with the Royal Canadian Engineers training in Chilliwack, BC. In early 1951, he went to Korea with the 57th Field Squadron, RCE, returning to Canada in 1952 and then to Soest, Germany, with NATO. He received a medical discharge in 1954. He married Ardythe Fleck and lived in Middle Stewiacke, and now in South Branch. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society. DAVIS, John Thompson WWI John was born in 1897 in South Branch, son of Solomon and Mary (Cox) Davis. He enlisted in the Army with the 106th Battalion and served overseas in France. After the war, he went to the United States, where he married Catherine Burrows and lived in East Braintee, Massachusetts. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society. DAVIS, William WWI William, son of Solomon and Mary (Cox) Davis of South Branch, was born in 1899 and joined the 106th Battalion and was sent to fight in France. There, they discovered he was underage and he was sent back to England and remained there for the duration of the war. After the war, he went to the United States, married and settled in the Boston area. William passed away in 1977. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society. DAVIS, Paul AFGHANISTAN Corporal Paul Davis (1978 – Mar 02, 2006) from Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. Served with the 2nd Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry based in Shilo, MB. He was killed when the light armoured vehicle he was traveling in collided with a taxi and then rolled over. Before being deployed to Afghanistan, Cpl. Davis was offered a promotion that would have kept him at home but refused because he had the sense of duty and comradeship with the people with whom he had been training.
