Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 67 DICKIE, Herman Samier WWI &WWII Herman was born in Eastville in 1888, son of George and Georgina (McKeen) Dickie, and joined the Army in 1917, shortly after the death of his first wife, Elizabeth Fulton, and spent some time overseas. After the war, he married his second wife, Lelia Smith of Cross Roads, and they moved to California. Herman was an Air Raid Warden during WWII, and in 1943, during a blackout, he tripped and fell down a stairway fatally fracturing his skull. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society. DICKIE, Lloyd George WWII Lloyd was born in Eastville in 1916, son of Clarence and Clarinda (Matheson) Dickie, and joined the RCAF in Halifax in 1944 and was stationed at St. Hubert, Quebec, and served there as a mechanic until his discharge in 1946. He marriedAvis MacLeod of The Falls, Colchester County. They first lived in Upper Musquodoboit, where he operated a machine shop, then in Middle Stewiacke where he built a house and had a combination shop and garage. He later worked at a garage in Stewiacke town. Lloyd passed away in 1976. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society. DOUCET, J. A. “Tony” SPECIALDUTYAREA Tony was born in Collette, NB, in 1936, and joined the Canadian Army (Artillery) from 1955-1958 and the Naval Reserve from 1960-1985. Tony has been a member of the Calais Branch #162 of The Royal Canadian Legion for the past 28 years. He received the CD1. Submitted by Calais Branch #162 of The Royal Canadian Legion. DOREY, Halton Truman WWI Halton was severely wounded during a night time bombing patrol in no-man’s land on June 9, 1918, during the 2nd Battle of Arras. He died three days later and is buried in plot 2 H 17 in the Wailly Orchard Cemetery. Halton was the son of H. Truman Dorey and Bessie Dorey of Newburne, Lunenburg County, NS. He joined the CEF on September 13, 1915, in Sussex, NB, at the age of 18. Submitted by Mahone Bay Branch #049 of The Royal Canadian Legion.
