Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 79 FISHER, Norman Marshall WWII Norman was born in Middle Stewiacke in 1903, son of Homer and Clara (Fleck) Fisher, and enlisted with the 13th Co. Canadian Forestry Corps in September 1940, serving in Canada and Scotland, and was discharged in April 1944 because of defective eyesight. He was a farmer and lived in his home place in Birch Hill and later moved to Stewiacke town. Norman passed away in 1981. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society. FISHER, Rupert Seldon WWII Rupe was born in Middle Stewiacke in 1920, son of Burton and Della (Fleck) Fisher. He worked as a mechanic prior to enlisting in 1940 with the 13th Co. Canadian Forestry Corps serving in Canada, Scotland, England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany, returning to Canada in September 1945. He met and married Mary Riddell of Scotland in 1944. After the war, they settled in Middle Stewiacke. Rupe was employed with the Department of Lands and Forests in Shubenacadie for 37 years. He passed away in 2000. FISHER, Walter Roy WWI Roy, son of Walter and Elizabeth (Bates) Fisher was born in Berry Hill in 1890 and grew up in Truro working as a meat cutter prior to his enlistment. He was a member of the 76th Regiment, Canadian Militia. He enlisted in 1915 and joined the 106th Battalion. He passed away in 1945. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society. FISHER, Thomas Crocker WWI Tom was born in Upper Musquodoboit in 1896 and lived with his family in Goshen. He was the son of Putman and Ida (Crocker) Fisher, and enlisted in Halifax in 1915 with the 85th Battalion, Nova Scotia Highlanders. He was gassed while serving overseas and had breathing problems for the rest of his life. Tom married Mary, a Scottish girl and lived in Timmins, ON, where he worked for a mining company.
