Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 81 FLECK, Cyril Dares WWII Cyril, son of Charles and Bertha (Clark) Fleck of Middle Stewiacke, was born in 1923, and enlisted in 1943 serving as a Tank Operator in Italy. After the war, he lived in British Columbia and married Cora Gray. He passed away in 1970. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society. FLECK, Elton Pryor WWI Elton was born in South Branch in 1894, son of Alexander and Emma (Andrews) Fleck. He went to the United States to work and served with the American Army in WWI. He and his wife, Jessie, who was from Amherst, NS, lived in Providence, Rhode Island. Elton passed away in 1969. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society. FLECK, Roland Arthur WWI Roland, son of Alexander and Emma (Andrews) Fleck of South Branch, was born in 1897. He was a farmer prior to enlisting with the 193rd Battalion Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force. He also served with the 85th Battalion and the 193rd Machine Gun Company. He was wounded at Passchendaele and received a medical discharge in 1919. He married Helen Currie and settled in Stewiacke town, where he ran a trucking business for a number of years. Roland passed away in 1989. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society. FLECK, Raymond Dickie WWII Raymond was born in South Branch in 1907, son of Solomon and Martha (Andrews) Fleck, and enlisted in the CanadianArmy in January 1942, training at New Glasgow, Petawawa and Eastern Passage, as well as taking an NCO course in Owen Sound, ON. He served on special duty in Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania. Before the war ended, he married Gertrude Levy and they made their home in South Branch. After his discharge, he worked at the local lumber mills and later at landscape gardening. Raymond passed away in 1988. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society.
