Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 83 FLECK, Russell Charles WWII & KOREA Russell was born in Middle Stewiacke in 1925, son of Charles and Bertha (Clark) Fleck, and enlisted in May 1944 with RCOC and served in Canada and the UK. He was discharged in June 1946 and re-enlisted in May 1953, and served with the Canadian Army in Korea as a Corporal. He was discharged in May 1961, and married Elizabeth Fielding of Truro, where they resided. He was killed in a car accident near Penobsquis, NB, in August 1962. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society. FORBES, John W. “Scotty” WWII Scotty, as he was known, was born in Dundee, Scotland, in 1906. He was the son of John and Helen Forbes. He served in WWII with the RCAF as a Leading Aircraftsman in the motor transport section working as a mechanic in England, Scotland, Ireland and the South Pacific. He married Bertha (Clark) Fleck and lived in Middle Stewiacke. He passed away in 1989. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society. FRAME, Cecil Bennet WWI Cecil, son of J. Frederick and Ellen (Geddes) Frame of South Branch, was born in 1895. He was recruited in 1918 and signed with the 1st Nova Scotia Battalion at Halifax. After the war, he went to California and settled in Westchester, near Los Angeles and married Mary Ann Bink from Chicago. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society. FOSTER, Henry Robertson WWI Henry was born in Boston in 1888, son of Thomas and Elizabeth (Robertson) Foster, and after his father’s death and his mother’s remarriage, stepson of John Fisher of Halfway Brook. Henry was recruited in 1918 and joined the 1st Nova Scotia Battalion as Corporal. After the war, he was a bookkeeper at H. T. Fulton’s store in Upper Stewiacke, and later worked at the Pictou Shipyards. He married Frances Ingleby Foster, daughter of Bryan and Bertha (Johnson) Foster of Upper Stewiacke Village.
