Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 97 GAULT, Martin Sinclair WWII Martin, son of Wallace and Minnie (Fisher) Gault of Cross Roads, was born in 1921 and enlisted in 1942, serving with the Perth Regiment mostly in Italy, where he was wounded twice. He married Nina Marion Flemming and lived for a time with his parents in Cross Roads, but mostly in Upper Musquodoboit. He passed away in 1993. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society. GAULT, Odessa Minnie WWII Odessa, daughter of Wallace and Minnie (Fisher) Gault of Cross Roads, was born in 1923. She enlisted in 1942 and trained in Quebec. She served with the CWAC and did all of her service in Halifax, remaining there until 1945. She married Claude Govela and they lived in Wellington, Halifax County. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society. GIFFIN, Lester Douglas WWI “L. D.” was born at Isaacs Harbour, NS, on December 18, 1893. He joined the Canadian Army, 85th Battalion in March 1916, and served in the UK and France. He was gassed in September 1918 and sent to England to convalesce. He returned home after the Armistice was signed. He lived until July 16, 1991, when he passed away at the Middleton VAC. “L. D.” is mentioned in Pierre Berton’s book Vimy. Submitted Middleton Branch #001 of The Royal Canadian Legion. GAVEL, Donald WWII Donald was born in Yarmouth, NS. He enlisted in the Canadian Infantry (19441946), serving in Canada and Europe. While serving in Europe, he was waiting for his transfer to Burma when the war ended. Don was the Charter President of Carleton Consolidated Branch #167 of The Royal Canadian Legion, where he continued to serve for many years. He now lives in Yarmouth with his wife, Marion.
