His duties were to feed the guns and to bring them supplies whatever the circumstances or perils in order that the line be held and the men that man it be protected from undue attack. GREENSIDES, Henry WWI Henry enlisted at Saskatoon in 1916 at age 37 with the 214th Battalion (Wild Cats) and sailed to England in April 1917 and completed his training there in various camps. His regiment was then broken up to reinforce different battalions at the front and he crossed with one of these drafts to the firing line. After taking part in some heavy fighting, he was killed during the capture of Passchendaele. Submitted by the Middleton Branch #001 of The Royal Canadian Legion. HALLETT, Edwin J. WWI Edwin was born in Halifax, NS and was in his 2nd year in Engineering at Dalhousie when war was declared. He was granted a commission when the Highland Brigade was formed as Lieutenant in the 219th Battalion and went to England and was transferred to the 85th Battalion and went to France going through the famous battles of Vimy Ridge and also several engagements around Avion, and Passchendaele. He was promoted to the rank of Captain and was wounded in the last great offensive and sent to the Prince of Wales Hospital, London. For his noteworthy conduct he received the Military Cross. HAIGHT, Murray Deblois WWII Murray was born in Gulliver’s Cove on November 3, 1921 and joined the Canadian Forestry Corps Front Line serving in Scotland, England, France, Germany, Britain, Belgium, North West Europe and Canada. He married Marie Haight and had two sons and one daughter. Murray helped build the Digby Legion Branch #020, of which he was a member and was a Life Member of the Freeport Legion Branch #92. He received the 1939-45 Star, the France/Germany Star, the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal & Clasp and another 1939-45 Medal. Murray passed away in 1999.
