WWII Gerald was born in Whitney Pier in 1913 and joined the 29th Armoured Reconnaissance Battalion “The South Alberta Regiment” R.C.A.C. serving in England, Belgium and Holland. He received the Cross of France, the Silver Cross and 4 other army medals. Gerald was killed in action on September 12, 1944 and is buried in Adegem Canadian Cemetery, VIII, E. 11 in Belgium. HAMMOND, Frank WWI Frank volunteered for the front with a draft from the 63rd and was later attached to the 14th Battalion going overseas in July 1916. It was during one of the struggles in the Vimy Ridge district for the supremacy of the famous Hill 70 that Frank sacrificed his life so that others might live. At the time he received the fatal wound he was in the act of administering to a fallen comrade. A shell exploded and a part of it pierced his abdomen, killing him instantly. HANDSPIKER, Edward KOREA Edward was born in Digby, NS in 1930 and joined the RCHA serving in Canada, the Far East, Continental Europe and Korea. He was a Life Member of the Digby Branch #020 for 22 years. Edward passed away in 1999. Submitted by the Digby Branch #020 of The Royal Canadian Legion. HANDSPIKER, Arthur W. “Buster” WWII Arthur was born in Digby, NS in 1917 and joined the Army Medical Corps. He was a member of the Digby Branch #020 for 35 years.
