WWI Edmond joined the 185th Cape Breton Highlanders in April 1916 and went overseas in October and was transferred in November 1917 to the 25th Battalion in France being appointed Scout Officer. In May 1918, he was awarded the Military Cross and entered Germany with the army of occupation. Submitted by the Middleton Branch #001 of The Royal Canadian Legion. JOHNSTONE, L. Howard WWI Howard joined the 25th Battalion in November 1914 and went to England in May 1915 crossing to France in September and took an active part in the heavy fighting of the following year. He was mentioned twice in dispatches and became Captain on the field. He was killed in action at Courcellette on October 1, 1916. Submitted by the Middleton Branch #001 of The Royal Canadian Legion. JUDEN, Frederick WWI Frederick was caretaker at the Halifax Armouries and enlisted on June 22, 1916 in the 14th Brigade Ammunition Column and afterwards trained at Petawawa, ON and sailed for overseas in September 1916 and was stationed at Witley Camp in England. In October 1917, he sailed for France and was attached to the 5th Division Trench Mortars and was on the Lens front and was in several engagements with the enemy. In February 1918, he was invalided out of the firing line to hospital in England and then back to his training depot at Witley and he arrived back home from England on December 3. Submitted by the Middleton Branch #001 of The Royal Canadian Legion. JOHNSTONE, Murray F. WWI Murray went overseas with the 2nd Siege Battery in June 1915 going to France in September. On June 3, 1916 he was severely wounded and was in hospital in England for 8 months. He returned to Canada on leave in March, 1917 and sailed again for England the following June when he joined the Royal Air Force obtaining his commission in January, 1918, and was still with the service when the Armistice was signed.
