Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 135 LANDRY, Raymond Honoree WWII Raymond was born in St. Clair, PQ on June 20, 1915 and joined the RCAF in 1940 in Toronto and did boot training in Sydney, NS and then to Vancouver in 1941 as ground crew airman. In 1943, he joined air crew training to get higher education and went to Brandon College in Manitoba for 3 months and then to wireless school in Calgary, AB and then to train as air gunner in Mountain View, ON. He volunteered for air convoy escorting merchant vessels and did 500 air patrol hours patrolling 12 to 14 hours a day. He then transferred to Gaspe, PQ for patrol of the Gulf of St. Lawrence River. He received the 1939 War Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal & Bar, the 1939-45 Star and the Atlantic Star. He was a member of the Port Hawkesbury Branch #043 of The Royal Canadian Legion. Raymond passed away in 2010 at the Veterans Wing, St. Anne’s Vets Wing in Arichat, NS. Submitted by the Isle Madame Branch #150 of The Royal Canadian Legion. LANDRY, Wilfred Albany WWII Wilfred was born in Poulamond in 1918 and joined the Merchant Navy in 1941 serving on the Rosecastle in the Atlantic Seaboard and the East Coast and was discharged at Louisbourg in 1942 due to illness. He married Clara (Fortune) Landry in 1942. He received the 1939-45 War Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal & Bar, the 1939-45 Star and the Atlantic Star. Wilfred passed away in 1979. He had been a member of the Isle Madame Branch #150 for 25 years. Submitted by the Isle Madame Branch #150 of The Royal Canadian Legion. LANGLEY, Willis Garnet WWII Willis was born in Seal Harbour, NS in 1919, the son of Leuman and Alice (Sponagle) Childs and served in the RCAF from 1942-1945 seeing duty in the North Atlantic on various search and rescue and supply services vessels. He was awarded the 1939-45 Atlantic Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal & Clasp and was honourably discharged on December 7, 1945. Willis was also a past member of the MacRitchie Branch #157, Goldboro of The RCL. Prior to his retirement he was a commercial fisherman in the community for many years. He passed away on September 11, 2004. He will always be remembered and respected for his years of service. Submitted by the Torbay Branch #117 of The Royal Canadian Legion. LANGILLE, Ernest Gordon WWII Ernest was born in Isaac’s Harbour in 1922 to Winifred (Levy) and Angus Langille. He was a Petty Officer in the Royal Canadian Navy serving his country faithfully on the HMC Niagara, HMCS Stadacona, HMCS Sudbury, HMCS Medicine Hat, HMCS Q069 and HMCS Comox during the Battle of the Atlantic and in other theatres of war. After the war, he worked briefly on the Great Lakes, the CNR and started a career that spanned 34 years with the Federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans. Prior to his retirement, he was the superintendent of the Antigonish Fish Culture Station in Fraser’s Mills, NS. He was the driving force behind a new monument erected in Goldboro as a tribute to Veterans of both World Wars and the Korean Conflict. Ernest was a recipient of a 60-year service medal from the Royal Canadian Legion, Arras branch # 59. He was married to Natalie Burlock for 63 years and had three sons.
