Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 139 LEVANGIE, Bertrand John WWII Bertrand was born in Charlos Cove, NS on October 13, 1896 to the late Patrick and Nataly (Richard) Levangie and joined the Navy serving in Canada and the High Seas. He was married to the former Christine Poirier on February 13, 1928 at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Halifax. He was 31 years old and Christine was 23 years old and they raised one son and three daughters. Bertrand was a member of the Torbay Branch #117. He passed away on February 7, 1973. He will always be remembered and respected for his years of service. He was a Life Member of the Digby Branch #020 for 14 years. Submitted by the Digby Branch #020 of The Royal Canadian Legion. LUDDINGTON, Angus William WWII Angus was born in New Harbour, NS on October 30, 1915, the son of the late Harding and Gertrude Luddington and enlisted with the Princess Louise Fusiliers in Halifax on June 30, 1940. He trained in Aldershot and Debert, NS. He had weapons classification Rifle, Brengun, Machine Gun and Mortars and was in “A” Wing Long Branch on September 14, 1942. He served in England before going to Italy and went into action on the line in Ortono, Italy shortly after Christmas of 1943 followed by action on the Gustav-Hitler Line. Angus was a Sergeant on May 7, 1944 and served in Canada, England, the UK, Italy and Central Mediterranean area from 1940-1945. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal & Clasp on January 10, 1944, the 1939-45 Victory Medal on June 20, 1944, the Italy Star, the 1939-45 Star and the 193945 Defence Medal on July 27, 1945. He married Mary Wright on June 14m 1947 and raised 4 daughters. Angus passed away on June 30, 1992. He will always be remembered and respected for his years of service. LOHNES, Claude Hector WWII Claude was born in Gowgander, Ontario on December 15, 1918 and enlisted with the West Nova Scotia Regiment on September 21, 1939 and served in Canada, the UK and the Central Mediterranean area. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal & Clasp and the 1939-45 Star. Claude was discharged on June 21, 1945 and married Jean Margaret Baker of North Brookfield and had 5 children and lived in North Brookfield until their deaths. Claude was a Life Member of the A. L. Patterson Branch #087 helping to build the hall and holding many offices as well as branch bar tender. Claude passed away on September 6, 2006. Submitted by the A. L.
