Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 143 MacDONALD, Roy WWII Roy was born in Antigonish, NS on July 11, 1918 and joined the Royal Canadian Army on September 3, 1939 enlisting with the 86th Coast Battery and went overseas on October 18, 1942 landing in England on October 25, 1942 and was then posted to the Calgary Highlanders and was wounded in Nimegan, Holland. When he was discharged from the hospital his Company was back in Germany. Roy received the Star Medal, the Italy Star, the Defence Medal and the France/Germany Star for his service 1939-45. He also received the “Thank You Canada Medal” for the part he played in the effort to liberate Holland. Roy has been a long time standing member of the Torbay Branch #117 and has held various positions over the years. He passed away on January 1, 2007. KOREA Cecil was born in Donkin, NS in 1932 and joined the 1st Battalion RCR serving in Canada, Korea and Japan. Cecil is a member of Branch #019 of The Royal Canadian Legion for the past 40 years. MacLEOD, John Angus WWII John was born in North Sydney, NS on October 15, 1900 and joined the Royal Canadian Navy on September 30, 1939. He was honourably discharged on November 24, 1945 after serving the Atlantic area. John was a member of Branch #25 of The Royal Canadian Legion. He passed away on March 9, 1971. MacLEOD, Harold Morris WWII & PEACETIME Harold was born in Sydney, NS in 1922 and joined the RCAF in 1941 and was posted to the Manning Depot, Lachine, PQ, where he was selected for pilot training and then sent to Mont Joli and then to commence training in Oshawa, ON and then proceeded to Hagersville, ON for training on twin-engine aircraft. After graduation with his Pilots’Wings, he was sent in April 1943 to Summerside, PEI for navigation training and then transferred to England in August 1943 to commence further training. He was a member of 38 Group’s 620 Squadron flying the Stirling aircraft. Harold was shot down in Arnhem, Holland and was a POW at Stalag Luft One and spent the remainder of the war there until his rescue. He received the Bronze Cross of the Netherlands.
