Russell WWII Russell was born in Whitehead, NS and joined the Canadian Army 3rd Division at New Glasgow, NS on May 1, 1942, serving in Canada, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. He was discharged from the service on January 18, 1946 and was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal & Clasp, the Defence Medal, the 1939-45 Star, the France/Germany Star and the “Thank You Canada Medal” from Holland. Russell worked at Deming Loren Station in Whitehead for 30 years, retiring on November 28, 1978. He’s a member of the Torbay Branch #117 where we hold him in the greatest respect and thank him for his years of service. Submitted by the Torbay Branch #117 of The Royal Canadian Legion. MURPHY, Raymond William WWII Raymond was born in Larry’s River, NS and enlisted in the Canadian Army on August 13, 1942 serving in the Provost Corps and was stationed in Halifax until March 19, 1947. He then left to return to civil life and was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the War Medal. In 1948, he moved to Brantford, ON, where he married Mary Elizabeth Avery who was also from Larry’s River, NS and had six children. He worked as a mechanic for the 21 years in Larry’s River. He opened a garage until he took over the mail run to Guysborough, Torbay and New Harbour. Raymond passed away on March 1, 1984 after battling cancer for a year. MURY, Joseph Patrick WWII Patrick was born in West Arichat, NS in 1913 and joined the #7 District Depot of the Army in Fredericton, NB serving in Canada. He received the 1939-45 War Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal & Clasp. Patrick passed away in 1998 and had been a member of the Isle Madame Branch #150 for 23 years. MURPHY, Vincent Archibald WWII Vincent was born in Larry’s River, NS on August 18, 1920 and enlisted in the Canadian Army on October 22, 1941 and was honourably released and transferred to the Reserve General Section Class “E” onApril 11, 1946. He moved to Brantford, Ontario where he met Irene MacLellan and got married in January 1948 and raised two daughters. He retired from the Ford Motor Company in 1982 and returned to Nova Scotia in 1987 until his death on November 16, 2000. Vincent was a Chartered Member of the Torbay Branch #117 of The Royal Canadian Legion. He will always be remembered and respected for his years of service.
