Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 163 PELLERIN, Julian Augustus WWII Julian was born in Larry’s River in 1904 and enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy ibn 1939 and served on the HMCS “Kenogimi”, the HMCS “St. Clare”, the HMCS “Protector” and the HMCS “Perigrine.” He valiantly served in convoy duty and fought in the Battle of the Atlantic. He was honourably discharged in July 1945. Gus returned home to his wife Cecelia and helped to raise 3 children. He played a key role in the building of the Torbay Legion Branch. He cut lumber off his property, paid to have them made into lumber and then donated the lumber and his carpentry skills in the building of the first Legion. Gus was employed as an “oiler” by the ocean graphic department of the federal government aboard the CGS Kapuskasing. He died suddenly on October 15, 1964, while working in New Brunswick aboard the ship. He will always be remembered and respected for his years of service. PELLERIN, Peter Daniel WWII Peter was born in Larry’s River, NS in 1919 and joined the Canadian Army in 1941 with the West Nova Scotia Regiment. While in Italy he was hospitalized for 3 months with diphtheria and then went to England and was hospitalized again for 6 months and was then released to active duty. He returned back in Halifax in February 1946 and was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the Italy Star, the France/Germany Star, the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal & Clasp and the 1939-45 War Medal. Peter worked for many years on the ship “Acadia” and was also a caretaker after it was turned into a museum. He was a former employee of the Bedford Institute of Oceanography where he worked for 30 years, retiring in 1983. Danny was a Chartered Member of the Torbay Branch #117. He never missed a Remembrance Day and was a Life member. He passed away on September 15, 1997. He will always be remembered and respected for his years of service. PELRINE, Allan WWI Allan was born in Larry’s River, NS on October 23, 1896 the son of Melanie Boudreau and Isial Pelrine and enlisted with the Royal Canadian Navy serving on naval patrol in Canadian waters and at DND Dockyard, Halifax, NS. On December 6, 1917, Allan was on shore duty at DND Dockyard when the munitions ship Mont Blanc collided with the Imo and blew up Halifax Harbour creating the worst disaster Canada had ever seen. As a result, he lost sight in one eye which in later years had to be removed. He was discharged on January 8, 1919 and worked for the Department of Public Works on Dredges. He married Bertha Helen Pellerin (1906-1987) on September 11, 1931 and raised 5 daughters and one son. Allan was a member of the Torbay Branch #117. He passed away on December 26, 1989 at the age of 93 and is buried in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Larry’s River. NS. He will always be remembered and respected for his years of service. PELLERIN, William George WWII William was born in Larry’s River, NS on April 26, 1912 to Augustus and Geneva (Pettipas) Pellerin and enlisted with the Pictou Highlanders on August 1, 1940 serving in Canada. He was honourably discharged on October 6, 1941 due to medical problems. Bill first joined the Pictou Legion Branch #016 after the war and then transferred to the Torbay Branch #117 where he was a Life Member. He passed away on February 20, 1986.
