WWI Laurence was born in Larry’s River, NS on November 27, 1895 to Henry and Margaret (Bonvie) Pelrine and enlisted in the 1st Nova Scotia Depot Battalion on June 5, 1918 at Aldershot, NS. After basic training he was soon serving at the front in France with the Canadian Expeditionary Forces. Laurence, a quiet man, spoke little of this period of his life as it was a painful time in which many horrors were experienced. His family knew this was his private Hell. He returned home in 1919 and was discharged on August 17 in Halifax, NS. Laurence married Mary Alice Avery and raised 8 children in the home village of Larry’s River, NS. He passed away on February 28, 1974. He was a member of the Torbay Branch #117 and he will always be remembered and respected for his years of service. Submitted by the Torbay Branch #117 of The Royal Canadian Legion. PELRINE, Thomas Paul WWI Thomas was born in Charlos Cove, NS in 1894 and enlisted in the Army. He passed away on October 18, 1951. PETTIPAS, Alphonse John WWII Alphonse was born in Larry’s River, NS on June 16, 1922, the son of the late Peter and Obeline (Gerrior) Pettipas and raised as their son by his uncle and aunt Luke and Mary (Gerrior) Avery. He served with the Royal CanadianArmy Pictou Highlanders (Men of the Regiment) in Nassau, Bahamas in 1943 assigned as Sergeant “Special Security” to the Duke of Windsor. He was a former member of the Torbay Branch #117 Guysborough. He was married to Patricia Drudge for 63 years and raised 3 daughters and 2 sons. Al passed away on December 8, 2007. Al will always be remembered and respected for his years of service. Submitted by the Torbay Branch #117 of The Royal Canadian Legion. PERTUS, Francis Claude WWII Francis was born in Poulamond, NS on August 25, 1913 and joined the air force in 1943 in Sydney, NS and did training as service police in Petawawa, Ontario and Sydney, NS. He did service policing at Point Edward Naval Base, 6 to 10 months with the Navy, Army and RCAF serving in NFLD from 1943-1945. He was discharged in Sydney in 1946. Francis received the 1939-45 War Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal & Bar and the Defence Medal. Submitted by the Isle Madame Branch #150 of The Royal Canadian Legion.
