Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 169 PIERS, Edward Eaton WWI Edward was born in Providence, Rhode Island, USA in 1869 and joined the Canadian Forestry Corps on April 20, 1917 and served in Canada and France. He was given a medical discharge on January 4, 1919. After the war he operated a hotel in Pugwash for many years. Edward passed away in 1941. Submitted independently. PIERS, Wathan Edward WWII Wathan was born in Pugwash Junction in 1921 and enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and served in Canada, Gander, Newfoundland and Goose Bay, Labrador. He operated a school bus service for many years and also owned a trucking company. His favourite pastime is horse racing. Wathan has been a member of the Pugwash Branch #060 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 64 years. Submitted by the Pugwash Branch #060 of The Royal Canadian Legion. PITTS, Clarence KOREA Clarence was born in Charlos Cove, NS on April 23, 1925 to the late Wilson and Mildred (Richard) Pitts. He was a Korean War US Army veteran and served 28 months in Japan. He worked at B & M Railroad for more than 37 years. He was married to the former Maura White and raised 3 daughters and 2 sons. He was predeceased by his wife and a grandson. Clarence passed away onApril 9, 2009 and is buried in New Calvary Cemetery, Boston, Mass. He will always be remembered and respected for his years of service. PITTS, Andrew Joseph KOREA Andrew was born in Seattle, Washington on March 20, 1929 to the late Wilson and Mildred (Richard) Pitts and was posted in Seattle during the Korean Conflict. While in Seattle, Andrew lost sight in one eye from an injury sustained while loading supplies on a ship. A rope was thrown and unfortunately he was struck in the eye. He served 28 months in the US Army. Andrew passed away on June 4, 2004 in Lakeland, Florida and is buried at the Florida National Cemetery.
