Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 173 RHYNOLD, Nettie WWII Nettie was born in Toronto, ON in 1922 and joined the Canadian Women’s Army in September 1942 and enlisted as a Lantz Corporal Ward #31 with the Provost Corps in Toronto in 1944. She was a Corporal Pay Corps at the Toronto Exhibition. Nettie went on with the Regimental Police at Camp Borden where she took police training and then went on to Kitchener, Ontario. After the war she took a clerks course and worked at Long Branch, Ontario. She was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Medal 1939-1945 and the Defence Medal. Nettie was an ordinary member of the Torbay Branch for many years and is now a member of the Canso Branch. We will forever remember and respect Nettie for her years of service. RICHARD, Bernard WWII Bernie was born in Larry’s River, NS in 1919 to the late Thomas and Vinnie (Pellerin) Richard and joined the Cape Breton Highlanders and served overseas. He was married to the former Christina Avery and had one daughter. Bernie passed away on August 23, 1987 in Guysborough Memorial Hospital and is buried in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Larry’s River, NS. RICHARD, Ernest Stephen WWII Ernest was born in Charlos Cove on May 26, 1922 and joined the Royal Canadian Navy Reserve serving in Canada. He passed away in July 1992. RICHARD, Brian Timothy PEACETIME Brian was born in Charlos Cove, NS on October 18, 1947 to Raymond and Charlotte (Richard) Richard and joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1965 and did his basic training in Cornwallis, NS and then served on HMCS Bonaventure and HMCS Cape Scott doing peacekeeping and NATO exercises in the Mediterranean and overseas. He was honourably discharged in November 1970. Brian has been very involved wit the Torbay Branch over the years and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal in 1997. Brian has had the following offices at the Branch: President, 1st and 2nd Vice President, Bar Manager and Chaplain. His leadership abilities have been valuable to the Branch and has been a shining example of what volunteers can do and how willingly they share their generosity to ensure that our rural communities remain vibrant and prosperous.
