Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 175 RICHARD, Harold WWII Harold was born in Charlos Cove, NS in 1910 and enlisted on December 21, 1937 with the Merchant Marine and served on the ship “Ganiff.” Following his discharge he returned to Charlos Cove and became a fisherman and married Kate Boudreau and had 4 children. Harold also worked for the Department of Fisheries and was instrumental in the construction of Torbay Branch #117 and was a Chartered Member. He passed away in 1969 at the age of 59 years. RICHARD, James WWII James was born in Charlos Cove, NS in 1916 and joined the Canadian Army (Active) Force in 1940 and served in Canada, the UK, France and Germany. He was wounded in action in April 1945 and repatriated to Canada in July 1945 via the Lady Nelson Ship. He was a graduate of Provincial Normal College, Class of 1938. After the war, he returned to teaching. James was a commanding officer, St. Peter’s Sea Cadets and he retired in 1976 after 38 years as a provincial civil servant. He served one year with the Corps of Commissionaires. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion since 1945, Past President of St. Peter’s Branch #047 and Past Vice President of the Somme Branch #031, Dartmouth. James passed away on May 30, 2001 at the age of 85. Submitted by the Torbay Branch #117 of The Royal Canadian Legion. RICHARD, Theodore Vincent WWII Theodore was born in Charlos Cove, NS and enlisted in the Merchant Navy in 1941 serving in convoy duty on HMCS Franklin. In 1941, he went to Labrador and was a key figure in the building of their airport. He spent time in Scotland working with the salvage crew on ships that had been torpedoed. He was a Chartered Member and Life Member of the Torbay Branch #117. Theodore passed away on September 15, 2004. He will always be remembered and respected for his years of service. WWII Raymond was born in Charlos Cove, NS on September 15, 1916 and entered Active Service in the Naval Forces of Canada on July 10, 1940 and was discharged on January 11, 1946. He served on HMCS Lachine in the North Atlantic Mine Sweeping Operation. He married Charlotte Richard on February 10, 1942 and had 4 children. He was employed with the Canadian Coast Guard until his retirement and was a Chartered Member of the Torbay Branch #117 where he always played an active role. Raymond passed away on March 14, 1993 at the age of 78. He will always be remembered and respected for his years of service. Submitted by the Torbay Branch #117 of The Royal Canadian Legion.
