Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 181 ROSS, James Robert WWII Robert, son of James L. and Clara Ross was born on June 10, 1917 in Woodstock, NB. He joined the Carleton York Regiment in 1940 and then the North Shore Regiment when it was formed. He was promoted to Captain and served as Company Adjutant. His was the first wave ashore on D-Day and later was badly wounded in Northern France. He received the Military Cross and repatriated back to Canada in 1945. He married Margaret Smith and lived in Woodstock where he operated a shoe store until 1960. Robert moved to Harmony, Queens Co. and worked at the Department of Transportation and later at the Post Office until his retirement. Robert passed away in 2002. Submitted by the A. L. WWII Anthony was born in Louisdale, NS on December 31, 1923 and joined the Army on October 23, 1943 at age 18 in Halifax and took his basic training at Cornwall, ON. He went overseas in 1944 and landed in Grendnic and was transferred to Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was discharged on June 20, 1946 and married Francis McGrath in 1950 and raised 6 children. He worked at the steel plant in Sydney then at a heavy water plant in Port Hawkesbury until he retired. Anthony received the France/Germany Star 1939-45, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the War Medal 1939-45 and the Thank You Canada Medal 1945. Anthony has been a member of the Isle Madame Branch #150 for 47 years. Submitted by the Isle Madame Branch #150 of The Royal Canadian Legion. SAMPSON, Daniel C. KOREA Daniel was born in Little Dover in 1928 and joined the RCF Royal Canadian Engineers in Canso in 1950 and went to Petawawa for training and then to Chilliwack for overseas in March 1952 on the vessel Seattle for Korea. He stayed in Korea until 1954 and then returned to Halifax and was discharged. He married Alice Pottie in 1955 and raised 4 children. His youngest son spent 20 years in the Army. Daniel worked 31 years at the pulp mill in Port Hawkesbury until he retired. He received the Korea 1950-53 Medal, the Peacekeeping Medal, the Korea Veteran’s Association Medal, 2 Korea Medals-President and 2 Korea MedalsQueen. Daniel has been a member of the Isle Madame Branch #150 for 7 years. Submitted by the Isle Madame Branch #150 of The Royal Canadian Legion. SAMSON, Lubin A. P. PEACETIME Lubin was born in Petit de Grat, NS in 1930 and joined the RCAF on January 2, 1952 at the recruiting center in Halifax and was sent to St-John, Quebec for military training and then transferred to the RCAF Business School in Aylmer, Ontario and was then sent to RCAF Station in MacDonald, Manitoba to work in the administration building. Nine months later he was transferred to the radar RCAF in Sydney and then to Ottawa headquarters where he worked in the administration on officers posting and careers until 1958. He then took a medical course in Aylmer, Ontario and was transferred to RCAF Uplands in the medical inspection room. As a final posting he was sent to RCAF Cold Lake, Alberta in the base hospital. He received the Canadian Decoration Medal and has been a member of the Isle Madame Branch #150 for 39 years. Submitted by the Isle Madame Branch #150 of The Royal Canadian Legion.
