Following the war, he was a self employed trucker and woodsman and was also a member of the A. L. Patterson Branch #087. He passed away on October 14, 2009 at the Veteran’s Unit of the Fisherman’s Memorial Hospital in Lunenburg, NS. Submitted by the A. L. Patterson Branch #087 of The Royal Canadian Legion. SMITH, Glendon WWII Glendon was born in Yarmouth, NS in 1917 and joined the Militia/West Nova Scotia Regiment serving in England and Continental Europe. SMITH, Roland Grant KOREA Roland was born in Upper Burlington, Hants Co., NS on September 3, 1930 and joined the Army on August 18, 1950 and served with the Princess Patricia’s Light Canadian Infantry attached to the Paratroopers Division. He served in active battle on the front lines during the Korean Conflict also in Canada, Korea and Continental Europe. Roland was honourably discharged with the rank of private in 1955 and was awarded the UN medal and the Korea Medal. After the war he was highly respected in his profession of brick and stone mason as well as in his community. His passion was fishing and hunting and was a member of the Uniacke Branch #165 of The Royal Canadian Legion. Roland passed away in March 2003. SMITH, Ray Branton WWII Ray was born in 1920 in Harmony Mills, Queens Co., NS and enlisted in 1940 in Toronto and went overseas in 1941 attached to the RAF as a wireless air gunner in Hampton Aircraft and later in Lancaster. Ray was killed in active duty on July 6, 1942 and is buried in a military cemetery in Coningsby, England. Submitted by the A. L. Patterson Branch #087 of The Royal Canadian Legion.
