WWII Nelson was born in Wolfville, NS on October 6, 1921 and enlisted on March 20, 1941 at #6 Depot in Halifax and was transferred to the Royal Canadian Artillery (anti aircraft) Camp 2A Petawawa. He served as a gunner in the 4th Light Anti Aircraft Regiment battery on June 29, 1941 and was later posted to the 62nd Light Anti Aircraft Battery. Nelson passed away on November 18, 1985 in Toronto and is buried in Berwick, Kings Co., NS. He had been a member of the Ortona Branch #069 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 10 years. He was mobilised onAugust 25, 1939 and signed for active duty on September 4, 1939 and transferred to the 14thHeavyAnti-aircraft and sent overseas in 1942. In 11943, he was awarded the Canadian EfficiencyMedal onDecember 21and returnedhome in1945anddischargedonOctober 18, 1945. Hewent back into themilitia onOctober 16, 1950andservedwith theHalifaxHeavyAnti-aircraftRegiment andwashonourablydischarged on May 20, 1955 with the rank of Sergeant Major. Bill was a key member of the Torbay Branch and held numerouspositions. Hewas awarded theMeritoriousMedal in1993andLifeMembership in2000. Hepassed away onMay 5, 2000. SUTHERLAND, Chester Garfield WWII Chester, son of Robert and Ethel (Whynot) Sutherland was born in Molega Mines, NS in 1922 and enlisted in the Royal Canadian Armed Forces in April, 1942 as a Forces Second Leader and served in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was wounded while serving in Belgium with a bullet through the right leg and by a grenade which left shrapnel in both lower legs. He received the 1939-45 Star, the France/Germany Star, the King George VI Medal, the Defence Medal, the Voluntary Medal and Maple Leaf Clasp 1939-45, the King George Medal, the Defence Medal 1939-45 along with the Amsterdam Medal from Holland. He married Isabel McArthur of Bothwell, Scotland and returned to Molega Mines, NS with his wife arriving at a later date as his war bride. He worked as a fishery officer until his retirement. WWII Harold was born in Nova Scotia in 1920 and joined the Carleton and York Regiment serving in England and Continental Europe. He was a Life Member of the Digby Branch #020 for 33 years.
