Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 21 BAGLEY, Charles WWI Charles enlisted in the 40th Battalion at Halifax on August 6, 1915 at the age of 40 and received preliminary training in Canada and sailed from Quebec for overseas in the Fall of the same year. During his year of service in England he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. In December, 1916 he proceeded to France and was on active service for many months and answered the call of his country through a brave spirit of generosity for being over the age limit. He felt that the services of every man were needed to meet the great crisis and his constant promotions are a proof of his earnest desire to serve his country. Previous to his enlistment, Charles had been employed with the government. Submitted by the Middleton Branch #001 of The Royal Canadian Legion. BAKER, James Andrew WWII James was born in Isaac’s Harbour, NS in 1920, the son of the late William and Bessie (Heisler) Baker. He served as Chief Petty Officer in the Royal Canadian Navy at HMCS bas Shelburne. He married Theresa DesChamps on August 1, 1943 and raised two sons. James was an entrepreneur whereas he very successfully designed and built his own boats for over 25 years, selling them in the States, Newfoundland, PEI and other parts of Canada. He passed away on February 24, 1994. He will always be remembered and respected for his years of service. Submitted by the Torbay Branch #117 of The Royal Canadian Legion. BARR, Gordon F. WWII Gordon was born in Digby, NS and joined the Army Signal Corps serving in England and Continental Europe. He was a member of the Digby Branch #020 for 30 years. Gordon passed away in 1995. Submitted by the Digby Branch #020 of The Royal Canadian Legion. BANKS, Thurston WWII Thurston was born in 1916 and joined the REME serving in England and Continental Europe.
