Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 49 BUGDEN, Benjamin Alton WWII Benjamin was born in Millvale, NS in 1922 and joined the Hamilton Royal Light Infantry serving in France, Holland, Germany and England. Benjamin is a member of the New Glasgow Branch # 34 of the RCL for the past 45 years. Submitted by the Normandy Branch #034 of The Royal Canadian Legion. BURKE, Judy SPECIAL DUTYAREA Judy was born in Drum Head, NS and joined the Canadian Armed Forces as an Administration Clerk in 1976 serving for the next 20 years on all three of Canada’s coasts, the Atlantic, Pacific and Arctic and numerous in-land postings as well before retiring and returning to live in Drum Head. In 1992, Judy was deployed to the former Yugoslavia for 8 months with 12 other Canadians to join the European Community Monitor Mission. Of the fewer than 100 Canadians to receive the ECMM Medal, Judy is the only Canadian female to hold this honour. Judy is a member of the Torbay Branch #117 of the RCL and will be forever remembered and respected for her years of service. Submitted by the Torbay Branch #117 of The Royal Canadian Legion. BURNHAM, Harry M. WWII Harry was born in Digby, NS in 1911 and joined the RCAF Marine Division serving in Newfoundland. He was a Life Member of the Digby Branch #020 for 33 years. Harry passed away in 1995. Submitted by the Digby Branch #020 of The Royal Canadian Legion. BURKE, Patrick L. WWI Patrick enlisted with the 66th Battalion in Halifax on August 14, 1914 and succeeded in getting overseas on January 22, 1916 where he was transferred to the 43rd Highlanders. He was wounded in France on Empire Day, 1916 and went to England for treatment and after recovery returned to France where he fought without further mishap taking part in the battle of Mons when Armistice was signed.
