Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 71 DEAL, Edward WWI Edward was born in Seabright, NS in 1893 and joined the army and was wounded in Belgium. DECOSTE, Eustace William WWI Eustace enlisted on March 1, 1916 in the 193rd Battalion at 18 in New Glasgow and trained at Aldershot with the Nova Scotia Highland Brigade and left Halifax for England on October 13, 1916 and was stationed at Witley Camp, Surrey until crossing to France in December to join the 42nd Battalion then in the front line on February 13, 1917 and was wounded in the right eye, chin, arm and hip by shrapnel at Vimy Ridge and returned to the firing line after only six weeks in hospital and continued all through the summer fighting right up to Passchendaele on November 14, 1917 where he was mortally wounded. WWII Lawrence was born in Arichat, NS on September 7, 1922 and joined the Medical Corps of the army on January 28, 1942 at Depot # 6 in Halifax and went to Windsor and then to Dartmouth repairing military camps and switched back to Debert working with doctors aiding soldiers. He was discharged in 1945 in Halifax. He married at age 25 to Amelia Gaudet in 1947 and raised 5 children. His wife passed away in December 2009. His parents were Charlie Decoste and Mary Mombourquette. Lawrence received the 1939-45 War Medal. Submitted by the Isle Madame Branch #150 of The Royal Canadian Legion. DECOSTE, Joseph Leonard SPECIALAREA DUTY Joseph was born in Arichat, NS in 1945 and joined the army in March, 1962 at Halifax and trained at Shilo, Manitoba and at RCHA, Gagetown then to Germany (NATO), 196772 and then posted to Val Cartier, PQ until 1976 and posted to Gagetown, NB in 1977 and then to RSS Montreal. In 1980 he re-posted to Val Cartier, PQ. In 1984, he went to R.S.S. Levere, PQ and was discharged in 1985 as a Warrant Officer 1st Class and retired to Arichat, NS on Isle Madame. Joseph received the Canadian Decoration (CD with Clasp), the Cyprus-United Nations Peacekeeping Medal and the Special Service Medal (UN).
