WWI Edwin enlisted in the 85th Battalion in 11916 and got rapid promotion to the rank of Sergeant and went overseas and to France with the original unit and was through the battle of Vimy Ridge in which engagement he was severely shell shocked. He was also in the battle of Avion and was in the trenches at the siege of Lens for several months. After convalescing from shell shock, he was made an instructor as a Training base in France and returned again to the line with Company “C” in the advance on Passchendaele Ridge where this gallant young soldier gave his life being instantly killed by an enemy shell. DOREY, Joseph Gilbert WWII Joseph was born in Cape Auget, NS on September 21, 1927 and joined the Merchant Navy at age 16 serving on the S.S. Ironwood, Ashby Park, Noranda Park in England, France, the United States, the West Indies, South Africa and the Phillipines. He received the 1939-45 War Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal & Bar and the Atlantic Star. He’s been a member of the Isle Madame Branch #150 for 38 years. DOUBLEDAY, Charles Walter WWI Charles enlisted in 1914 and went overseas with the 40th Battalion to England and was drafted to the 24th in France and was badly wounded by shrapnel at Courcellette on September 21, 1916 and invalided to England. DOUBLEDAY, Albert Edward WWI Albert joined the R.C.R. in June 1916 and shortly afterwards became ill and was discharged from the service.
