WWII Maurice was born in Halifax, NS on January 28, 1928 and joined the Merchant Navy at age 16 in Halifax and was placed on SS Lady Rodney, a troop ship and sailed to St. John’s NFLD and Labrador for 8 months and then on the SS Tampaco Coastal Freighter sailing on the Atlantic seaboard to New England States, then on the SS Hamilton Park down to Jamaica taking cargo. He joined the army in 1947 and did peacekeeping in Germany with NATO and in Egypt in 1959. He retired with 24 years of service. He married Betty Dobson in Halifax in 1952 and has a son and a daughter. Maurice received the 1939-45 Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal & Clasp, the 1939-45 War Medal, the NATO Medal& Clasp, the Canadian Forces Medal, the Canadian Peacekeeping Medal, the United Nations Emergency Force Medal with #2 tours, the Queen Elizabeth Coronation Medal. Submitted by the Isle Madame Branch #150 of The Royal Canadian Legion. DUGAS, Joseph “Lee” WWII Joseph was born in 1922 and joined the Canadian Dental Corps serving in England and Continental Europe. He was a Life Member of the Digby Branch #020. Joseph passed away in 2001. Submitted by the Digby Branch #020 of The Royal Canadian Legion. DURKEE, Charles H. WWI Charles enlisted on April 12, 1916 in the 219th Battalion at Yarmouth and trained in Aldershot. He was turned down from the 219th as being medically unfit for service overseas when they sailed for England. He was sent to Wellington Barracks, Halifax and remained on duty there until December 6, 11917 when he was killed. Submitted by the Middleton Branch #001 of The Royal Canadian Legion. DUNN, Gerald WWII Gerald was born in Digby, NS in 1923 and joined the RCOC serving on the High Seas. He was a member of the Digby Branch #020. Gerald passed away in 1996.
