Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 97 FOUGERE, Peter WWI Peter was born in Larry’s River, NS on April 30, 1897 to Simon and Eunice (Pettipas) Fougere. Peter’s mother died while giving birth and he was adopted by his grandmother, Sophie (Linden) Pettipas. He joined the army at the age of 18 years and 4 months on August 24, 1915. Peter was killed in action while with the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Forces. He will always be remembered and respected for his years of service. FOULKES, William WWI William enlisted with the 40th Battalion on June 8, 1915 and trained at Aldershot and after sailing for England on October 19, 1916 the battalion was broken up and he was accordingly transferred to the 60th Battalion and joined them in France and saw plenty of heavy fighting until July 4, 1916 when he was wounded. After a year of convalescence in England and France he sailed for Canada on June 14, 1917. He was discharged from service as medically unfit for further fighting on November 30, 1917. FRANCIS, Charles WWII & KOREA Charles was born in Middleton, NS in 1926 and joined the RCAMC/ West Nova Scotia Regiment serving in England, Continental Europe and Korea. He was a Life Member of the Digby Branch #020 for 28 years. Submitted by the Digby Branch #020 of The Royal Canadian Legion. FOSTER, William Gore WWI William, son of Judge W.R. and Mrs Foster was born in Dartmouth and was a graduate of Dalhousie University. He took a military course at Halifax qualifying as Lieutenant and received a commission in the 112th going overseas in July 1916. On arrival in England, officers were called for to reinforce the different battalions at the front and he immediately volunteered and in August joined the 44th Battalion in the trenches and took part in the tremendous Somme offensive in the fall of 1916 and was killed in action by a high explosive shell on November 18, 1916.
