Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 105 MacKILLOP, John WWI John, brother of Angus, joined the 10th Siege Battery in November 1917 and went overseas with a draft in the following fall, spending two months in England. MacMILLAN, Horace Goddard WWI Horace enlisted at the age of 22 with the St. F.X. Hospital unit which sailed in June 1916 for overseas. He was promoted to Sergeant before leaving Canada and after the unit had been on duty for a year in England, was made a Staff Sergeant in recognition of his efficiency. He went to France on Christmas day in 1917 and was there when hospitals were bombed by enemy aircraft in May 1918. In the raid, Horace was hit and he died of his wounds on May 20. He was one of the most efficient and reliable N.C.O.’s in the Canadian Medical Service and was the youngest son of Mrs. Stephen MacMillan of Isaac’s Harbour, Guysborough County. He enlisted in the Canadian Air Force on October 5, 1942 and was discharged on May 16, 1946. He served with the Reserve Corps after the war in Burma. He received the 1939-45 Star, Burma Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. After the war, he moved to the Monastery area and married Josephine MacDonald with whom he had a son. He had a mill and lumber business. Guy is buried in Tracadie. Submitted by Tracadie & District. MacMILLAN, John Anthony WWII John was born to Gertrude (Gerrior) and James Michael MacMillan in Bayfield, NS. He enlisted in the Merchant Marines and later transferred to the Army where he was stationed in Gagetown, NB. On discharge, he received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and the 1939-1945 Defence Medal. John was a heavy equipment operator in civilian life in Halifax, Sydney and Ontario and never married. He retired to Halifax where he presently lives. Submitted by Tracadie & District.
