WWI Welsford had been a member of the Halifax Police Force for six years before he enlisted with the 85th Nova Scotia Battalion in 1916. He was transferred to the 185th Battalion in Sydney then crossed to England to train troops. He was promoted to Sergeant and remained there a year and then went to France, transferring to the 25th Battalion. He was wounded in the face and wrist and was dangerously ill in an Australian hospital in Rouen. Submitted by the Middleton Branch #001 of The Royal Canadian Legion. MOFFATT, Norman D. PEACETIME Norman was born in Strathclair, Manitoba in 1938. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, serving with Mobile Support Equipment and was also with the Canadian Forces, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. He served in Canada and Europe with NATO and the UN. He received the UN Disengagement Observation Force Medal, the NATO Medal, the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal and the Canadian Forces Decoration 2. Submitted by the Lawrencetown Branch #112 of The Royal Canadian Legion. MOIR, Waldo WWI Waldo enlisted in March 1915 in Halifax and arrived in England in August 1915. He went to France with the 28th Battery on January 15, 1916 and fought at Mount Kemmel, St. Eloi, then at the Somme, Courcelette, Regina Trench and Vimy Ridge. On April 9, he was transferred to the 16th Battery and in October was sent to Lens and Passchendaele. After 28 days there, he was recalled to Canada. Submitted by the Middleton Branch #001 of The Royal Canadian Legion. MOIR, Ernest Rae WWI Ernest volunteered for the Flying Corps in 1917 and was accepted and sent to Toronto for training. He qualified as a pilot, was sent to Texas as an instructor and from there, was ordered to England where he was attached to the Royal Naval Air Force. He did patrolling duty along the Channel ports and the French and Belgian coasts as well as took part in the bombing of Zeebrugge and Ostend. He was also on duty at Harwich at the surrender of the German Fleet. Submitted by the Middleton Branch #001 of The Royal Canadian Legion.
