Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 127 MORRISON, Ewen N. WWI Ewen, son of the late Ewen N. Morrison, enlisted with the Dalhousie Unit in 1915 and served in France with the No. 7 Stationary Hospital. He was with them all through their arduous work before and after the signing of the Armistice. Submitted by the Middleton Branch #001 of The Royal Canadian Legion. MOSS, John WWI John enlisted with the 40th Battalion on February 15, 1915 and was transferred to the 25th Battalion the following May. He sailed overseas on September 14, 1916 and went to France where he fought in the second battle of Ypres in Belgium. He was wounded in this battle in the head and went to the Base in France. After convalescence, he returned and fought through many big engagements, such as the battle of the Somme and the taking of Courcelette. He was reported missing but afterwards was reported killed in action on November 24, 1916. Submitted by the Middleton Branch #001 of The Royal Canadian Legion. MURPHY, Harry J. WWI Harry was 20 years old when he joined the 10th Battery, H.A.C. Overseas Regiment on August 4, 1914. He sailed for England on October 1, 1914 and reached France the following March. He escaped death twice at Vimy Ridge when two different horses were shot from under him. At Ypres, he was shell shocked and received a medal for bravery in carrying ammunition to guns while under fire. He was later hit in the hand by shrapnel while repeating this performance and his bravery was recognized by the addition of a bar to his medal. MOSS, Stanley WWI Stanley enlisted with the 40th Battalion on July 29, 1915 and was drafted to the 5th Canadian Mounted Rifles to France in February 1916. He fought in the third battle of Ypres and was wounded on June 2 in his left side then was sent to England. After convalescing, he went to the Mechanical Transport and was still in France when the Armistice was signed. Submitted by the Middleton Branch #001 of The Royal Canadian Legion.
