He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served as a Warrant Officer Class II in England where he was killed in action on February 5, 1943 at the age of 22. He is buried in the United Kingdom. He was awarded the War Medal 1939-45, the Defence Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Bar. Submitted by the Isle Madame Branch #150 of The Royal Canadian Legion. PETTIPAS, Alphonse John WWII Alphonse was born in Larry’s River, NS on June 16, 1922. He served with the Royal Canadian Army Pictou Highlanders (Men of the Regiment) in Nassau, Bahamas in 1943 and was assigned as Sergeant “Special Security” to the Duke of Windsor. Alphonse was a former member of the Torbay Branch #117 Guysborough. He was married to Patricia Drudge for 63 years and raised 3 daughters and 2 sons. Al passed away on December 8, 2007. Submitted by the Torbay Branch #117 of The Royal Canadian Legion. PETTIPAS, Leonard Francis WWII Leonard, son of Oscar and Harriet Pettipas, was born in Linwood, NS on January 27, 1920. He joined the Army on May 17, 1940 in Mulgrave, NS and served in Canada, Britain and North West Europe. Leonard was killed on September 14, 1944 while serving with the Algonquin Regiment. His grave is at Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery, Nijmegen, Netherlands. Submitted by Tracadie & District. PETTIPAS, Benjamin WWI Benjamin was born to Margaret Pettipas of East Tracadie on November 25, 1891. He was drafted in March 1918 with the 1st Depot Battalion. He later married Margaret Mattie and they had no family. Benjamin was a farmer after the war. Submitted by Tracadie & District.
