Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 137 PETTIPAS, Peter WWI Peter served in the Canadian Infantry with the 94th Battalion of the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Forces. He married Mary MacIsaac from British Columbia with whom he had a son and he was a miner after the war. Peter’s brother, Willard, also served in WWI. Submitted by Tracadie & District. PETTIPAS, Willard M. WWII Willard and his brother, Peter, were the sons of Simon Pettipas from Tracadie, NS. He served with the 26th Battalion of the Canadian Infantry delivering messages from troop to troop. When he was on one of these message deliveries, his own camp was blown up and everyone was killed. Willard married Margie Gouthreau and they had 2 sons. Submitted by Tracadie & District. PITCHER, William A. WWI William enlisted for service on February 7, 1916 and trained at Aldershot with the 219th Battalion as a bugler then was promoted to Sergeant Bugler on August 5 when only 17 years old. After four months training with the Highland Brigade in Nova Scotia, he sailed for England where he was transferred to the 161st Battalion. Surrendering his stripes, he crossed over with the 47th Battalion as a batman and after a brief period in the trenches, went over the top on September 2, receiving a gunshot wound in the arm and chest. He died from his wounds a few days later at the age of 19. Submitted by the Middleton Branch #001 of The Royal Canadian Legion. PHILPOTTS, Walter S. WWI Walter enlisted with the 97th Battalion on August 16, 1916 and sailed to England on September 25, crossing to France four months later. He fought at Vimy Ridge, Hill 70, Passchendaele, Amiens, Monchy, and Canal du Nord. He was wounded in the thigh during the capture of Mons on November 9, 1918 and after hospital treatment in England, sailed for Canada on January 18, 1919.
