Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 151 ROCHE, Charles Joseph WWI Charles was a Lieutenant in the 63rd Regiment when he volunteered and was sent over as Officer Commander to England with the 1st draft on January 22, 1916. He was there only three months when he was selected for a draft of officers and transferred to the 13th Battalion in France, where he was killed by a shell at the 3rd Battle of Ypres. WWI Harry enlisted in the 9th Siege Battery in Halifax in October 1916 and went overseas, arriving in France on April 20, 1917. He fought on the Lens, Arras and other fronts, taking part in many heavy bombardments and fortunately, escaping without injury. He was only 19 years old when he enlisted and is the son of the late David Roche of Halifax. Submitted by the Middleton Branch #001 of The Royal Canadian Legion. ROSS, John Allister WWI John enlisted with the 76th Regiment in July 1914 at the age of 20 and went into training with the R.S.I., qualifying as a machine gun and signaling officer. He joined the 106th Battalion as a Lieutenant and later was transferred to the 193rd Battalion as a signaling officer before going to France as a Lieutenant with the 85th Battalion. He entered the line a few weeks before the Battle of Vimy Ridge and was wounded in the fighting around Lens in July 1917. He was sent to a base hospital in France and later removed to England. Earle WWI Earle enlisted in the 63rd Regiment and was on active service from August 4 to October, 1915. He was transferred to the 2nd Section Ammunition Column and went to Petawawa, ON and then overseas in September 1916. He went to France with the 61st Battalion, C.F.A. and served on the Lens and Arras fronts. Submitted by the Middleton Branch #001 of The Royal Canadian Legion.
