Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 155 SAMSON, Cartney David SPECIAL DUTYAREA Cartney was born in Antigonish, NS on November 3, 1967. He joined the Army in November 1986 at 19, trained and served in Canada, then in England with the Military Security Guard Unit and in Algiers as a bodyguard to the Canadian ambassador. He was also at 15 Wing Moose Jaw and Haiti with the UN. He was awarded the United Nations Mission in Haiti Medal, the UN Service Medal and the 12-Year Canadian Forces Decoration. Discharged after twelve years, Cartney lives in Calgary, AB and is training for his license as a commercial helicopter pilot. Submitted by the Isle Madame Branch #150 of The Royal Canadian Legion. SAMSON, Glenn Patrick PEACETIME Glenn was born in Antigonish, NS on June 25, 1971. He joined the Navy on June 25, 1993 and sailed on Marlant SP, HMCS Charlottetown, Nipigon and Ville de Québec. On September 2, 1998, when Swissair Flight 111 crashed off Peggy’s Cove, NS, Glenn was on the Joint Task Force for the search and rescue of the aircraft and its victims. He was discharged in March 1999. With his wife, Elizabeth, he is raising 2 daughters and is working in Sackville, NS as an electrician. His father, Paul Samson, is president of RCL Branch #150 in Arichat and his mother is Margaret Gerard. Submitted by the Isle Madame Branch #150 of The Royal Canadian Legion. SAMSON, Jamie Wesley SPECIAL DUTYAREA & PEACETIME Jamie was born on March 7, 1973 in North York, ON. He joined the Governor General Horse Guard Reserve and in 1994, then joined the Royal Canadian Dragoons, SQDD. Jamie served 3 tours in Bosnia and 1 tour in Afghanistan on peacekeeping missions. He was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration, the UN Bosnia Medal, the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal, the Former Yugoslavia Bar and the Camp Star Afghanistan. Married to Denise Burgess and raising 3 children, Jamie is currently posted in Petawawa, ON as a Master Corporal. Submitted by the Isle Madame Branch #150 of The Royal Canadian Legion. SAMSON, James Clive SPECIAL DUTYAREA & PEACETIME Clive was born in Arichat, NS in 1968 and is currently the Regimental Sergeant Major with the Cape Breton Highlanders in Sydney, NS. He served in Bosnia in 1992 and as a member of IFOR in Bosnia in 1995. He has also served in Ethiopia/Eretria in 2001 and has served two tours in Sierra Leone in 2006 and 2010. He was awarded the United Nations Protection Force Medal (Yugoslavia), NATO’s Implementation Force Medal, the UN Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea Medal, Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal, Special Service Medal (NATO), Canadian Forces Decoration and the Operational Service Medal with Bar. Clive is married to Bonnie Bonin and they have 2 children. He has been a member of RCL Isle Madame Branch #150 for eleven years.
