He joined the Army in 1941, served in Canada and was discharged in 1942. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. With his wife, Edith Landry, he raised 6 children. Lawrence worked at the local fish plant in Petit-de-Grat until he retired. Lawrence passed away on November 13, 2001. Submitted by the Isle Madame Branch #150 of The Royal Canadian Legion. SAMSON, Michael Francis SPECIAL DUTYAREA & PEACETIME Michael was born on November 25, 1970 in Weston, ON. He joined the Navy on November 12, 1989 and served on HMCS Nipigon, Toronto and Iroquois in Canada and in the Adriatic Sea. He was part of NATO Operation Sharp Guard Bosnia, was a Master Seaman and was discharged in March 2008. Michael was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration, the Special Service Medal (NATO), the South-West Asia Service Medal, the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal (2002) and the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal (Former Yugoslavia). He works at the Halifax Shipyard as a Supervisor and lives in Portuguese Cove, NS with his wife, Susan Fiander, and their son. Michael has been a member of RCL Isle Madame Branch #150 for twenty years. Submitted by the Isle Madame Branch #150 of The Royal Canadian Legion. SHANNON, Lawrence Alfonso WWI Lawrence was born in Lennox Passage, NS on May 7, 1897. He joined the Army and served with the 17th Reserve Battalion, Nova Scotia Regiment of the Canadian Infantry in France and England where he died of his wounds on August 27, 1918. He is buried in the Liverpool (Kirkdale) Cemetery, Lancashire, England. Lawrence was awarded the 1914-1918 Star, the Victory Medal and the British War Medal. Submitted by the Isle Madame Branch #150 of The Royal Canadian Legion. SAMSON, Wilfred Arthur WWII Wilfred was born in Petit-de-Grat, NS on July 28, 1926. He joined the Army in 1944, the Air Force in 1953 and the Merchant Navy in 1942. He retired in 1970 after 34 years in the Canadian Forces. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the 1939-1945 Victory Medal, the Canadian Forces Decoration 2 with Clasp and the Canadian Forces Button. He was a Life Member of RCL Isle Madame Branch #150 for twenty-six years before he died on November 26, 1996. He is survived by his wife Leola, 8 children, 24 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
