He enrolled in the Canadian Forces in Halifax in 1984 and was posted at Cold Lake, AB where he flew in CF-18, CF-5 and T-33 aircrafts. In 1988, Corporal Snyder served with the UN Disengagement Force in Golan Heights and in 1989, was posted to HMCS Protector and was part of the Confliction Force of the Naval Blockade for the Gulf Conflict in January 1991. He was later posted to Lahr, Germany during the Yugoslavian Republican Conflict and in 1997, to National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa. He served on the board of inquiry in Aviano, Italy during the Kosovo bombing in 2001 and in Afghanistan for the incident in April 2002. He retired from the service in 2003 and lives and works in Ottawa with his wife Tara and two children. Submitted by Tracadie & District. SNYDER, Francis Gerard PEACETIME Francis was born on December 27, 1947, the son of David and Marcella (Delorey) Snyder of Afton. In June 1964, he joined the Royal Canadian Engineers and was posted to Chilliwack, BC. He was honourably discharged in August 1965, due to military unification. He worked at Stora Enso until June 2003, when he retired. His first wife was Patricia Morrell and they had three children. His second wife is Donna Veinot and they have one daughter. Francis resides in Afton and is quite active in the community with minor ball, Boy Scouts, parish activities and enjoys genealogy as a hobby. Submitted by Tracadie & District. SNYDER, John Alexander PEACETIME John, son of Pat and Harold Snyder of Tracadie, NS, is a graduate of Acadia University. He joined the military under a special commissioning program in 1981. In the spring of 1982, he did his basic training in Cornwallis and remained there as Specialist in Physical Education and Recreation Occupation. He was posted to Camp Borden in 1983, to Europe/Germany Canadian Forces in 1985, and to Shilo, MB in 1991 where he took parachute training in 1992. In 1993, he was posted to Petawawa and to training operation for UN Protection Forces. He served as Canadian Welfare Officer, providing amenities services to members serving in theatre. In 1995, he transferred to Trenton and in 1997, retired from the military due to closure of the Physical Education and Recreation Program. John lives with his wife, Marcel and 2 children in Barrie, Ontario. Submitted by Tracadie & District. SNYDER, Harold David PEACETIME Harold, son of Harold and Pat Snyder, was born in New Glasgow, NS in 1958. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces in March 1978, trained in Kingston, ON and was later posted to Gagetown, NB for trades training. In 1980, he was posted with the Royal Canadian Dragoons to Lahr, Germany for two years and was promoted to Corporal. In June 1983, Master Corporal Snyder was posted to Calgary and to the Construction Engineering Unit in 1988 after completing extra training. In 1991, Sergeant Snyder was attached to CFB Halifax and in July 1997, was posted to Combat Engineer Regiment at CFB Petawawa. In 1998, he was posted to Honduras for Humanitarian Disaster Relief and in 1998, returned to Petawawa. Harold and his wife Amber have three children. He retired after 25 years in the fall of 2003 and now resides in Ottawa. Submitted by Tracadie & District.
