Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 179 WALLER, Frank Cyril WWI Frank enlisted with the 6th Mounted Rifles, trained at Valcartier and completed his training in England. He sailed for France in March 1916 and at Cambrai, his squadron advanced several miles into the German lines. He was wounded on October 10, 1918 and sent to hospital suffering from five wounds, two in the right leg, two in the left leg and a gunshot wound. He was promoted to Lance Corporal. Submitted by the Middleton Branch #001 of The Royal Canadian Legion. WALLER, Joseph H. WWI Joseph enlisted with the 185th Battalion at Broughton, NS and was found medically unfit for overseas. He transferred to the Composite Battalion, served in Halifax and Kentville and was discharged in June 1917 after a year’s service. Submitted by the Middleton Branch #001 of The Royal Canadian Legion. WALSH, Harold WWI Harold enlisted in July 1915 when only 15 years old. He went overseas in May 1918 with “C” Company, 66th Battalion, and reached France in August 1918. He served as a stretcher bearer. Submitted by the Middleton Branch #001 of The Royal Canadian Legion. WALSH, Francis Andrew WWII Francis was born to Joseph and Marie (Bowman) Walsh in Merland, NS. He enlisted very young with the Canadian Infantry and served on the home front. He was waiting in Halifax to board ship for overseas when the war ended. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Francis married after the war and had one son. He worked in Ontario for 20 years with General Electric and then did construction work. At present, he lives in New Glasgow. He is one of five brothers who served. Submitted by Tracadie & District.
