Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 183 WALSH, William Edward WWII William was born to Joseph and Marie (Bowman) Walsh in Merland, NS. He enlisted in the Army and served with the Canadian Artillery in Canada, the UK and France. He was killed in Normandy on July 29, 1944. His family has his medals – the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, and the Defence Medal. He never married. He was one of five brothers who served. Submitted by Tracadie & District. WARE, Charles H. WWI Charles enlisted in the 85th Battalion in 1915 and went overseas in 1916. He proceeded to France in February 1917 and volunteered for the hazardous position as a runner, which is one of the most dangerous in a battalion. He made it through the famous Battle of Vimy Ridge on April 9, 1917 and the battles of Triangle, Avion and Lens. During the battle of Passchendaele, he was severely wounded and invalided to England, returning to Canada about the time the Armistice was signed. He was wounded in 1917 and sent to England for hospital treatment. Submitted by the Middleton Branch #001 of The Royal Canadian Legion. WARE, Clyde S. WWI Clyde enlisted with McGill University Army Medical Corps in 1914 and went to England and then to Salonika, where he was taken ill and invalided to England.
