Volunteers were later called to fill the ranks of the famous 25th Battalion in France. Sydney was the first to step forward and ten months later, he was killed in action. YOUNG, Alexander WWI Alexander enlisted in a draft of the 85th Battalion in November 1917 and sailed overseas on December 4. After reaching England, he was transferred to the 17th Battalion then back to the 85th when he went to France and was wounded in the knee at Cambrai in October 1918. He joined the Army and served in Europe with the 29th Armoured Reconnaissance Regiment and the Alberta Regiment of the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps. He was killed in action in Europe on April 6, 1944 at age 23. Walter is buried in the Brookwood Cemetery in England. Submitted by the Atlantic Branch #153 of The Royal Canadian Legion. YOUNG, George WWII George was born in Arichat, NS in 1918. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served with the Merchant Navy on the Maplecourt. He died on February 6, 1941 when his ship was torpedoed and sunk. George received the War Medal 1939-45, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Bar and the Atlantic Star.
