Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 25 BOURQUE, Arthur Raymond “Ray” WWII Ray was born on August 15, 1923 in the Bronx in New York then moved with his family to New Brunswick, Canada. When WWII broke out, his father and two older brothers enlisted so, at 16, he lied about his age and joined the Merchant Navy. He then joined the West Nova Scotia Regiment and a short while later, was in Italy taking part in some of the worst battles of WWII. On August 31, 1944, he stepped on a mine and was wounded and his best friend killed. This ended his tour of duty. Ray passed away on September 19, 2010 at 87. He joined the Army and served in France with the 87th Battalion of the Canadian Infantry, Quebec Regiment. He was killed in action on September 30, 1918 at age 19. BOUTILIER, Burton WWII Burton was born in Tantallon, NS in 1923. He joined the Army and served in Belgium with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders of the Royal Canadian Infantry Corps. He was killed in action on October 16, 1944 in Belgium at 21. Burton is buried in Adegem Canadian War Cemetery in Belgium. Submitted by the Atlantic Branch #153 of The Royal Canadian Legion. BOUTILIER, Austin Ephraim WWII Austin was born in Tantallon, NS in 1919. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served in Europe with the Black Watch of Canada, Royal Highland Regiment. He was killed in action in the Netherlands on September 29, 1944 at the age of 25. Austin is buried in Bergen Op Zoom Canadian War Cemetery, Netherlands.
