Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 31 BREEN, Francis WWI Francis was born to Mrs. Mary Breen from Tracadie, NS on May 24, 1900. He was from a farming family and was only 16 when he enlisted in Antigonish on April 7, 1916. He served with the 193 Battalion of the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force. He went to the United States after the war, married and had two children. Submitted by Tracadie & District. BREEN, Michael Charles WWII Michael was born in Merland, NS on June 30, 1920, son of Charles and Mary (Dhooge) Breen. He enlisted in the Canadian Infantry on January 2, 1944 and was discharged on November 5, 1946, after serving in Canada, United Kingdom, and Central Mediterranean. He received the 1939-45 Star, Italy Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, and the War Medal 1939-45. He never married. He is a brother to Eugene Xavier, WWII Veteran, and Francis, WWI Veteran. He presently lives in Antigonish. His sister, Mary MacDonald, lives in Merland. Submitted by Tracadie & District. BROUSELL, Wilfred SPECIAL DUTYAREA & PEACETIME Wilfred was born in Arichat, NS on December 13, 1938. He joined the Army in Halifax, NS in 1957 and served with the Royal Canadian Regiment, Canadian Engineers. He trained at CFB Petawawa, ON then was posted to Germany (1959-61), Picton, ON (1961), and Cyprus (1964). He returned to CFB Picton in 1965, serving with the Ace Mobile Force in Denmark, Norway, Greenland, in the Artic and South America. Before he retired in 1981, he was at CFB Ottawa in 1972 and at CFB Chatham, NB in 1976. He was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration and the UN Forces in Cyprus Medal and the Special Service Medal. He has been a member of RCL Isle Madame Branch #150 for eighteen years. Submitted by the Isle Madame Branch #150 of The Royal Canadian Legion. BRITTEN, Stanley Joseph WWI Stanley was born in Poirierville, NS on March 22, 1889. He joined the Canadian Infantry and served with the 17th Battalion of the Nova Scotia Regiment in France where he was killed in action on August 13, 1918. He was awarded the 1914-1918 Star, the Victory Medal and the British War Medal. Submitted by the Isle Madame Branch #150 of The Royal Canadian Legion.
