He enlisted in the Canadian Army in New Glasgow on August 11, 1942 and served on the home front and Bermuda. He was discharged on February 14, 1945 and received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. He married Theresa Crispo and they lived in the Monastery/Tracadie area. He and Theresa had eight children. He worked for the Department of Highways until retirement and is buried in Tracadie. Submitted by Tracadie & District. BURGOYNE, Raymond WWI Raymond was born in St. Margaret’s Bay, NS in 1895. He joined the Army and served in France and Belgium with the 5th Canadian Mounted Rifles, Quebec Regiment. He was killed in action on June 2, 1917 at age 20. Raymond is buried at Menin Gate (Ypres) Memorial Cemetery in Belgium. Submitted by the Atlantic Branch #153 of The Royal Canadian Legion. CALLICOTT, John Ayre “Jack” WWII & SPECIAL DUTYAREA Jack was born in Plymouth, England in 1921. He joined the Air Force and served with the Royal Air Force, 404 Squadron from November 10, 1938 to January 10, 1946 as well as with the Royal Canadian Air Force from January 6, 1948 to November 14, 1971. He was awarded the Defence Medal, the War Medal and the Canadian Forces Decoration. John passed away in 1977. Submitted by the Lawrencetown Branch #112 of The Royal Canadian Legion. BURNS, Joseph Gordon WWII Joseph, son of Greg and Rita Burns, was born on March 29, 1920 in Ogden, Guysborough County, NS. He enlisted in the Canadian Army in June 1943 and was in the Artillery until November 5, 1945, serving on the home front. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and the War Medal 1939-45. He married Vieta McKeough and they lived in the Tracadie district area. Gordon Burns, Linwood and Rita Delorey, Tracadie are his children. They had 6 children. Joseph had 4 brothers in WWII and he is buried in Tracadie. Submitted by Tracadie & District.
