Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 51 DeCOSTE, Jeffrey J. WWII Jeffrey was born in Cape Auget, NS on April 30, 1916. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy on November 19, 1940 and served on HMCS Barrie and on numerous other ships in Canada and overseas. He was awarded the War Medal 193945, the Atlantic Star, 1939-45 Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. On February 2, 1943, Jeffrey was medically discharged and he returned to Arichat, NS where he marriedAnna Dewolfe, with whom he had 2 children. He was a fisherman, sailed on lake boats in Ontario for 2 years, worked at the Fisherman’s Co-Op in Petit-de-Grat and later was a janitor in Arichat before retiring. Jeffrey died in 1981. Submitted by the Isle Madame Branch #150 of The Royal Canadian Legion. DeCOSTE, William David WWII William, son of Sadie and Frank DeCoste, was born in Grosvenor on March 26, 1916. He enlisted with the Merchant Marines on January 14, 1942 and was an oiler aboard ship. After discharge, he married Lillian Levangie, had 3 children and they lived and worked in Ontario for a while before moving home. He died in Grosvenor at age 39 from cancer. His brother, Damian, served in the Army during WWII and William was a brother to the late Anthony DeCoste of Tracadie. Submitted by Tracadie & District. DELOREY, Francis William WWII Francis, son of Mary Alice (Wallace) and John Francis Delorey, was born in Merland, NS. He enlisted in the Canadian Army and served in Canada, UK, Africa, Italy and Sicily. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the War Medal 1939-45, the Defence Medal, the Italy Star and the 1939-45 Star. Francis and his wife, Theresa Gillis, had 13 children and he worked as a trucker after the war. Two of his sons live in the old home next to Tracadie Hall. He was a brother to Jessie Benoit. He is buried in Tracadie. Submitted by Tracadie & District. DELOREY, Francis Philistine WWII Francis, son of David and Katherine Delorey, was born in Tracadie, NS. He enlisted in the Army and served in the Italy/Sicily campaign. The ship he was sailing on was torpedoed in the Mediterranean twice and he spent 6 – 7 hours in the water before he was rescued. After his discharge, he married Jean Burke with whom he had one child and adopted two children. He was a labourer after the war. He lives in New Glasgow now. Raymond Delorey of Tracadie is his brother. Submitted by Tracadie & District.
